Whilst the Whitehosue & Grange Bowling Club was founded in 1872 the first actual official bowl on the Green did not take place until 23rd May 1873.
To mark the 150th Anniversaryof this momentous event in our history, President Soosan Danesh rolled the ” silver jack” used to open our seasons. This took place before hosting some Bowls Scotland ties and after some members had joined together for a celebratory tea and Cava in the Clubhouse .

Very busy week coming up at W&G including the hosting of various Bowls Scotland ties. So if you are not involved in playing, you may still wish to come along to spectate and provide support. The bar will be open and, in addition, on Tuesday 23rd a little ceremony to mark the 150th anniversary of the first bowl on the Green on 23rd May 1873 is planned.

On Sunday 14th May, Whitehouse & Grange hosted a match against past Edinburgh Bowling Club Presidents. Not the warmest of days but enjoyed nevertheless by all those who took part.
The Club took out a stall at the Grange Fair on 13th May, as part of our membership drive, and also to promote our own Summer Fair and Open Day on 27th May. Good level of interest in our own event and we have attracted potentially some new members including the grandson of a former Scottish Internationalist.
Members are encouraged to promote further our Summer Fair and Open Day with family friends and any others who might be interested.
This coming weekend on Saturday 13th May, Whitehouse & Grange will have a stand at the Grange Fair at Newington Library 13:00 to 16:30 as part of our membership recruitment drive. Also, we are promoting our own Summer Fair and Open Day on 27th May. So come along and support our efforts this Saturday and also enjoy the Grange Fair . Follow link below to see what is on offer:
The following day, Sunday 14th May, we have a special match W&G v ex Presidents followed by tea in the clubhouse.
Teams are already selected but spectators most welcome
Our own “king” for the day John Cameron arranged a special Coronation Day Triples much enjoyed by members and concluded just before the downpour.
After we finished playing, Club President Soosan Danesh marked the King’s Coronation by planting a tree supported by Peter Pitkin. the Grange Association’s Tree Expert. He had advised “Davida Involucrata Sonoma”. A glass of “1872” Cava was enjoyed by those present for the planting ceremony.
and then a quick retreat to the Clubhouse,as the rain started, for tea, special Coronation quiche made by Gill Brown and cake.
